A s with the Phoenix bird, our nation, our region and our publishing matrix have survived the tough times of the last 18-months and are on the rebound. For all of the wonderful moments and people that we have had the pleasure of working with and assisting in these changing times we want to express our appreciation for the honor.

Even though the El Paso region has had it's own problems with the economy and small businesses like the Mesa Bistro and Mango's going out of business as well as large family owned businesses like Ireland's Furniture and Ethan Allen Furniture closing up shop as well; we are blessed as a region to have been able to survive with less harshness than others.

Our sister city Cuidad Juarez, Chihuahua has had it's own world news nightmare and for those people we send our prayers. But, we also give thanks and welcome those who have now made the El Paso Westside their home too.

That is why it is so vitally important to keep our publications going strong. There is no substitute for community based publications. Only Valley Publishing Company provides through the Upper Valley matrix which includes Upper Valley Living Magazine that special touch of person to person awareness and insight into our community.

One such painful example is the loss of "La Grand Dame" of Westside Dining, Annette Means. Annette was the owner of the family owned Mesa Street Grill. We lost Annette suddenly last August and we were touched by the loss. If there was ever anyone who brightened up our day whenever we had the good fortune to see her smiling, it was Annette and she is dearly missed. Our feature on the Wine Tasting Dinner last summer has our last photo of Annette with her husband Bill. The restaurant and bar are now run by her son, Erin Means.

Even with the turmoil and changing landscape we were able to provide the region with some incredible new and dynamic features along with our usual magnificent photo filled articles.

You will notice that we now feature great photo galleries... virtual tours, really... through our Westside ROX Entertainment Guide and now Las Cruces ROX too. Some of the great features this past year include the great UTEP Miner upset of then #12 ranked Houston. Also, we have a great photo gallery of the first "Night on the Town" in Las Cruces farther up the Mesilla Valley.

We honor the changes and are geared up for more great features and photos this year.

We hope that you will enjoy this great Holiday Issue and let it bring warmth to you and your family this holiday season.

We thank all of you for your continued support in making our region just a little bit more special.

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
